pre-order one mississippi

AVAILABLE ON VINYL & CD

In the mid-2000s, One Mississippi—named after the band, not the river—quietly existed within Austin’s chaotic, ever-evolving music scene. Blending punk rock energy with a collaborative “old Austin” spirit, the band featured members from groups like Molecular Steve, Damnations, and Grand Champeen. Though their time together was short-lived, from 2003 to 2008, their music captured something special—only to vanish when life got in the way.

That might’ve been the end of their story, if not for Ron Byrd’s unwavering belief in the band’s unreleased self-titled album. In 2023, Byrd reconnected with longtime friend and Strolling Bones Records owner George Fontaine Sr., who declared it “the best unreleased indie rock record I’ve ever heard.”

Now, after nearly two decades, One Mississippi’s lost album is finally getting the spotlight it deserves. From the driving opener “Told You So” to the gritty charm of “Kid Abandon” and “Leon,” the record feels raw yet fresh—a time capsule of Austin’s shifting identity.

One Mississippi’s long-lost debut will be released via Strolling Bones Records on vinyl, CD, and digital platforms on May 30th, 2025.
